Sahajan “Discovery Kit” Review

Hello lovelies! Spring is here and the weather is slowly but surely warming up and this is the time I like to switch up my skincare to lighter viscosities. I usually use less products in the warmer days as I like to keep my skin as “au naturale” as possible.

Sahajan – from the Hindi word for intuition had me instantly curious to learn more about this holistic skincare line, especially when ancient traditions, organic and natural ingredients are listed in their products.

“I wondered, why was I willing to put something on my own skin that I wouldn’t want on my child’s?” – Lisa Mattam

Lisa came home one day to find her daughter applying one of her face creams all over her face. Worried about what was in the products she decided to venture out and create her own natural and organic collection for body and hair.

Sahajan was inspired by Lisa Mattam’s traditions from back home – Kerala in Southern India is rich in Ayurvedic traditions. Ayurveda is simply the “science of life” , a 5,000 year-old system developed in ancient India and used in over 80% of households today. Many ancient Ayurvedic remedies like coconut oil or turmeric have many healing powers and Lisa’s father would cook up remedies in the kitchen when a skin complaint arose, like a pimple or rash. Sahajan worked very closely with Ayurvedic doctors to develop a skincare line that used ancient traditions with modern science to create an effective holistic skincare line.

I received the “Discovery Kit” which includes five deluxe samples for skin and hair and a travel-size mirror all neatly tucked in a linen cosmetic bag with beautiful floral embroidery detail inside. The kit is a great option as it’s the perfect way to experience the products without the huge commitment. This tasting menu of deluxe goodies come in generous sizes and these little samples pack a powerful punch!

SO WHATS IN THE DISCOVERY KIT YOU ASK?

Protective Face Serum is a silky greenish serum that’s full of beneficial antioxidants. Triphala is an Ayurvedic herbal rasayana formula consisting of equal parts of three myrobalans, taken without seed: Amalaki, Bibhitaki, and Haritaki. Triphala a powerful antioxidant helps to brighten skin, Gotu Kola is a medicinal herb that reduces the appearance of wrinkles, firms the skin and improves skin elasticity. Hyaluronic Acid hydrates and plumps the skin, revealing that youthful glow. I absolutely loved this citrusy scented serum which absorbed quite quickly into the skin, leaving a glowy complexion.

Nourish Face Cream contains the exact first two ingredients of the protective face serum and with added protein rich Coconut Oil. The green colored cream is rich in texture, but once it touched my fingertips it quickly melted. I pressed the cream into my skin while inhaling the calming holistic Ayurvedic ingredients. My skin immediately was glowing but not oily looking, which quickly subsided. A great cream to use either morning or night.

Restorative Eye Cream is absolutely lovely. Super gentle and very hydrating, it also left a luminous sheen. Neem Oil firms the skin and minimizes the appearance of dark circles. Triphala’s greenish hue brightens with its powerful antioxidants and Honey protects the skins barrier and soothes the delicate eye area. I like to tap a bit under the eyes in the morning and in the evening all around the orbital bone.

Nurture Hair Oil is a very light treatment that can be used in damp or dry hair. Rich in Eclipta Alba and Amla Oil – which is packed with vitamin C to nourish hair as it grows and helps to maintain hair colour and shine. Coconut Oil deeply hydrates and keeps hair healthy and soft while sealing split ends. You can also use nurture hair oil as a hot oil treatment, simply apply all over hair and place a shower cap over head for 30 minutes allowing the pure natural oils to penetrate. Shampoo or rinse and style.

Ritual Body Oil is heaven in a bottle. The nourishing ingredients calm your body and mind with hydrating Coconut Oil, Almond Oil and  Sesame Oil. Rich in Vitamin E, ritual body oil strengthens, conditions and protects the skin. I love to apply this after a bath or shower and it can be used as a massage oil..ooh love that! Ritual body oil also illuminates, revealing hydrated and healthy looking skin, perfect for anytime of the day, it absorbs quickly without being overly slick.
